FMM: Have You Ever…?

December 19, 2011 3 comments

This week’s Friend Makin’ Monday topic is “Have you ever…”  If you haven’t done this before, it is a fun way to take a break from your usual blogging topic(s) and learn about someone!  Just type the answers to these questions on your own blog, then link it up in the comments on the All The Weigh blog.  Enjoy!

FMM: Have You Ever?

1. …traveled outside of your home country?  If so, where?  I’ve only been out of the United States once, and that was to Niagara Falls, Canada.  DH and I took a road trip for our 5th wedding anniversary (in 2005) and I was about 8 weeks pregnant at the time, so we like to say that our son came with us, too!

2. …performed on stage in front of at least 1,000 people? If so, share some details!  Yikes, no!  I’ve performed in a concert band for maybe 200-300 people and have spoken in front of 100-200 people, but nowhere close to 1,000.  I think that would be a bit much for me!

3. …watched an episode of Jersey Shore?  Oh gawd, I’m ashamed to admit it but yes.  Back in late September I had this awful flu and found myself waking up around 2:30am, not able to fall back asleep.  So, I’d go downstairs and watch Jersey Shore.  It is sadly addicting, though not enough for me to have watched any more after that!

4. …baked a cake from scratch?  If so, what’s your specialty?  I have baked a cake from scratch, but haven’t done it since DS was born.  I do love to bake and this weekend spent hours baking Christmas cookies and assorted goodies.

5. …worked in a grocery store?  No, but I worked in a small “general store” in a resort area.

6. …dated someone who was your best friend first?  I’m married to him 🙂

7. …made a difference in someone’s life during Christmas?  In little ways, I hope that I have.

8. …been on TV?  Only when clips of high school volleyball games would make the local news.

9. …had cosmetic surgery? Nope – I’m afraid of surgery and even so, can’t think of anything that I’d really want to change about myself enough to go under the knife.

10. …learned a second language?  If so, what else do you speak? Well, I took Spanish for 2 years in high school and then for another 2 semesters in college.  I can read Spanish much better than I can speak it.  Before I had DS, I could also curse like a drunken sailor – so well, in fact, that it was almost like a second language.  I’ve since toned it down 🙂

The Lighter Side – Non-traditional uses for your bathroom scale

June 21, 2011 Leave a comment

Okay folks, I’ve got a confession to make…I’m having trouble getting back on the South Beach Diet wagon since returning from vacation.  It is hard this week because DS has started sports practice 4 nights a week.  Plus, work is crazy stressful and makes vacation feel like it was 4 months ago.  Lame excuses, I know.  I’m still watching calorie intake and doing my recumbent bike exercise, but my good intentions to get back on SBD this week have fallen by the wayside so far.  There’s always tomorrow…

So instead of beating myself up, I decided that I would find something that put a smile on my face – and this post on Non-traditional uses for your bathroom scale did just that.  Granted after reading the post I found I couldn’t really empathize (I’d jump up and down if my scale ever reached 145 pounds…much less stayed there), but like I’ve mentioned before I know we all have our own weight loss demons!  My favorite use – chopping board!  Maybe you could even use it as a trivet and put a big, hot, steaming bowl of spaghetti and meatballs (or macaroni and cheese, yummmmmm) on it.

Promise I’ll stop the pity party soon.  I’ve dropped 0.4 lbs. so I’ll be inspired again soon.

If you’ve been in the same situation before, I’d love to hear how you got yourself back on the weight loss wagon!
